Authorities in Astana hope orders from Kalamkas-Khazar development will support three local Caspian Sea yards
A Russian privately-held engineering and construction specialist has emerged ahead of an established Italian contractor as the leading contender for a Kazakhstan offshore engineering, procurement and construction award.
The EPC award covers the construction and installation of an offshore hydrocarbon production platform at the Kalamkas field — part of the Kalamkas-Khazar development in the Caspian Sea — as well as a separate, smaller living quarters module to be installed next to it.
The Kalamkas and Khazar fields are estimated to hold combined recoverable reserves of about 620 million barrels of oil, with Kalamkas due to produce first oil in 2029, and Khazar expected to follow within two to three years.
